Hey everyone! I’ve been hearing so much about Accutane for my acne. The condition has really gotten worse over the past few months and I’m desperate to see some improvement. However, I’m a bit concerned about the cost. Has anyone here used it? How expensive is it typically?
Posted by: DrMedicine
Hello SunnySkies87! Accutane can indeed be quite effective for severe cases of acne that don’t respond well to other treatments. The price can vary depending on your location and whether you have insurance coverage. In the U.S., without insurance, a month’s supply might cost around $150-$300. However, if you have insurance, it could be much cheaper. It's important to discuss this with your healthcare provider as they may also know about financial assistance programs that can help reduce costs.

Thanks, DrMedicine! That’s good to know. I do have health insurance, so hopefully, the cost won’t be too prohibitive. Do you think it's worth trying even if it does come with some side effects?
Posted by: DrMedicine
You're welcome! It is a strong medication and does carry potential side effects, but many find that the benefits outweigh these risks. Common side effects include dry skin and lips, sensitivity to sunlight, and in rare cases, more serious issues like liver problems or depression. I recommend discussing all of this with your dermatologist who can provide personalized advice based on your health history.

I will definitely talk it over with my dermatologist before making any decisions. Thanks again for the information!

Hey SunnySkies87! I’ve been on Accutane for about 6 months now and while it’s not cheap, the improvement in my skin has been worth every penny. Just make sure to stock up on moisturizer because your skin can get really dry.

Thanks for sharing, AcneWarrior101! That’s good to hear about the improvements. I'll definitely keep that in mind about the moisturizer. Your experience is reassuring!

Great advice from AcneWarrior101! Proper skincare while on Accutane can make a big difference in managing side effects like dryness and peeling.
